In Loving Memory of William James Montgomery
William James Montgomery, age 75, passed away May 30, 2019 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Bill was born on June 22, 1943 to William James Sr. and Rita (Rogers) Montgomery in Memphis, Tennessee. He graduated from Whitehaven High School there in Memphis and then attended Memphis State University. Bill also attended Regis University in Colorado Springs.
He completed his formal education by obtaining his Masters in Computer Science but Bill never stopped educating himself. He served in The United States Marine Corps during Vietnam. His awards include; the Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze campaign stars, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Color with palm and frame) ribbon bar, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Civil Action Color with palm and frame) ribbon bar, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter badge. Bill also
participated in operation against the insurgent communist (Viet Cong) in the Republic of Viet Nam, and participated in the initial landing at Chu Lai RVN, Vietnam. Bill had seen and experienced amazing and unspeakable things. He was a kind and witty man who truly wanted to see the good in others. He loved programming computers. Bill worked for Union Planters Bank, Memphis, FedEx also in Memphis as a Systems Analyst and as a Technical Assistant for FedEx, Colorado Springs. Bill enjoyed woodworking, riding his Harley, Ice Hockey, going out to the shooting range and parachuting out of planes. He was even working on obtaining his own pilots license at one time. Life of course had a different path. He married a few times; Helen Osborn, Rebecca Armstrong, and Veronica Bui.
Friends and family knew him at Billy. One time after Billy took all his great nieces and nephews crabbing at the beach at night, he became an immediate hero and got the “pleasure” of taking them for four more nights. Bill will be loved and missed by anyone who ever knew him.
He is preceded by his parents William James Montgomery and Rita (Rogers) Montgomery and sisters Bettie Jean Cloud and Barbara Anne Meadows. Bill is survived by his wife Veronica Bui Montgomery of Colorado Springs; his daughters Robyn Hope Montgomery of Colorado Springs, Andrea Montgomery Williams of Charlottesville, Virginia; Grandchildren Jack Williams and Noelle Williams; his sisters Nancy Sasser of Prattville, Alabama and Rita Mack Austin, Texas; nieces and nephews, Michelle Fuller of Prattville, Alabama, Cheryl Jones of Trophy Club, Texas, Cindy Bedell of Tampa, Florida; Tom Cloud of Orlando, Florida, and Bill Cloud, Wanda Meadows of Nashville, Tennessee; and many other family and friends.
Graveside Services were held Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Honors provided by The Untied States Marine Corps.
