In Loving Memory of Roberta Jane Griffin
Mrs. Roberta Jane Griffin, a 60-year resident of Colorado Springs, passed away on November 19, 2018.
Jane was born in Josephine, Pennsylvania, on July 31, 1931, to Robert and Mary Housholder. One of eight children, she grew up in Indiana County, PA before the Air Force brought her to Colorado Springs by way of Germany and Arizona. Hers was one of the first families to live on the Air Force Academy.
After leaving the Air Force, Jane worked in Federal Civil Service for twenty-six years as an administrator for the Civil Engineering Squadron, first at the Air Force Academy and then at Peterson Air Force Base.
Jane was sharply intelligent, a voracious reader who was seldom seen without a book nearby. She passed this on to her children, imparting a love of language and stories as well as a curiosity about the world and its workings. She took great pleasure in gardening and photography, and loved French onion soup, green burritos from Taco Bell, and Brötchen from Serrani’s Bakery. A child of the Depression, she grew up with a great admiration for Eleanor Roosevelt that lasted all her life.
Jane leaves behind her sister Alma Shaffer (Donald); brother Donald Housholder (Ann); sons Mark Post (Nancy) and Joseph Post (Susan); daughter Jennifer Post (Michael Stelk); her grandchildren, Sara Post (Brad Lieck), Stuart Post and Spencer Post; her great-grandson Arthur Lieck; many nieces and nephews; and her stepson and stepdaughter Brett and Barbara Griffin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Griffin, who passed away in 1990; her sisters Louise Wissinger and Hazel Fugate; her brothers John Housholder, Paul Housholder, and William Housholder; her stepdaughter Beth Griffin Carter; and her beloved dogs, Quentin, Cicero, Logan and Daisy.
Jane’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff and caregivers at the Retreat at Sunny Vista, with special thanks to Becky Decker.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Griffin will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, November 27th in the parlor at Return to Nature Funeral Home, 123 E. Las Animas St. 80903, followed by interment with honors at Monument Cemetery, 800 Beacon Lite Road, Monument, Colorado 80132.
