In Loving Memory of Joy Susan Hines

Joy Susan Hines, age 67, passed away on August 6, 2019 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born on August 6, 1952 in Illinois to James Woodrow Edwards and Dorothy R. Potter.  After graduating high school from Flossmoor High School in Illinois, Joy went on to attend the University of Colorado as well as the Boston University; obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and her Master of Education in Human Services.  She also minored in Psychology and Communications.  Joy also had training from the Seventh Army Combined Arms Training Center. She had an extensive career doing what she loved as an Educator, a Counselor, and a Youth Leader.  She spent a portion of her career working for the Department of the Army as part of the Child Protection and Case Management Team.

Joy spent 44 years of her life living in Colorado Springs, but she also loved getting out and about doing the things that she enjoyed most out of life.  She loved going to Cripple Creek and playing cards and bingo, shopping, skiing, swimming in her pool in Florida, listening to her favorite music by Bruno Mars, the Beatles, and Herman’s Hermits, but most of all, spending time with her pets and family and friends.

Those gone before Joy include her father, James Edwards; mother, Dorothy Potter; and her twin sister, Jean Edwards.

The family requests that any memorial funds be donated to Young Life of Colorado https://younglifecollegecos.younglife.org/. As a teenager, she came to Colorado from Illinois to spend time at the Young Life Camp in Mt. Princeton – after she graduated from High school,  she decided to come to Colorado and live here and go to college here.  Donations can also be made to Rocky Mountain Cancer Center in Colorado Springs located at 2312 N. Nevada Ave, Suite 400, Colorado Springs, CO 80907 https://www.rockymountaincancercenters.com/places/colorado-springs/.
