Joanne Monaghan

Joanne Monaghan passed away peacefully on January 28, 2023 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born on February 13, 1936 in Camberwell, England to Alfred Francis Edwin Giles and Winifred Iris Proctor Giles. She entered the U.S. in 1954 when she married LeRoy Sons. Though her marriage to LeRoy ended after 10 years, they brought two children into this world together, David Leroy and Kelly Jean.

Joanne became a U.S. Citizen in 1959, and later married Joseph Monaghan, on April 11, 1964. Joseph is now deceased, but they had two children together, Jeffrey and Heather during their 21-year marriage.

In 1985, she was a divorced, single mother attending Pikes Peak Community College working towards a degree in Business Management. During her time as a student, she was President of the Student Council. She then began working as the assistant to the President of the College, among many other positions for over 22 years.

She loved travelling with her daughter Heather and grandchildren, Bryttany and Christian. They had many adventures together. She also loved bowling, gameshows, and cooking. Helping others was what she did best.

Joanne is preceded in death by her sons, David Leroy and Jeffrey Scott and her daughter, Heather C. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Jean Mackeen; her grandchildren, Bryttany, Christian, August, Kai, Justin, Joseph, Josh, Aaron, and Bryan; and many great-grands.

A private graveside burial is planned.
