In Loving Memory of Jack Henry Martin Stom
Jack Henry Martin Stom, passed away on January 15, 2020 in Colorado Springs. Jack was born September 11, 1934 in Paradise, Kentucky to Carroll Henry Stom and Evelyn Stom. Jack grew up in Kentucky and Michigan, graduating from Hazel Park High School and attended Lawrence Technical College. Jack was a sportsman, enjoying baseball, golf, waterskiing, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, and bowling. Jack met his future wife, Frances, at a bowling alley in Detroit, Michigan. They married on August 14, 1954. During their honeymoon, Jack and Fran went to a cottage on the beautiful shores of Manitoulin Island in Canada. They spent their days fishing. City girl, Fran, learned how to fish alongside her dashing new husband, Jack. One day, Fran, fishing with a double hook, caught two fish at the same time. The line broke under the weight of the huge fish, but never fear, heroic Jack jumped into the lake to retrieve Fran’s prize catch! This was just the beginning to a lifetime of loving teamwork and happiness.
Jack loved with all his heart. His family and friends will remember him as a deeply loyal, generous, caring, patriotic and adventurous man. He loved to travel and to visit new places. Jack lightened any room he was in with his sense of humor and ability to make people feel at ease; and was literally a “Jack” of all trades — too many to list. He found comfort in his Methodist faith. Jack will be honored and missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded by his parents, Carroll and Evelyn Stom; brother, Roger; sons-in-law, Mark O’Connor and Aki Akanuma.
Jack is survived by his wife, Frances; son, Brett (Dawn); grandsons, Derrick and Jake; daughters, Brenda Akanuma, Jackie (Don) Chism and Tracy (Butch) Russell; brothers, Glenn and Roy; sisters, Diane and Nancy; and many other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, January 24, 2020 at the Cowboys for Jesus Church, 11 North 22nd Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904.
