In Loving Memory of Geraldine “Jeri” Rodrick

Jeri Rodrick

Born November 24, 1933 to Alfred and Velma Goering, Jeri Goering developed her determination, strong work ethic and sharp sense of humor while spending her formative years with her beloved sister and brother on a farm in Windom, Kansas. She married Bill Rodrick and spent time in Kansas, Iowa and New Jersey before settling in Omaha, Nebraska where together they raised 2 children, Wendy and Wade. A lifelong learner, she received a bachelor’s degree from McPherson College, a master’s degree at UNO in counseling and in retirement she became a Master Gardener through a program at CSU. Her early career consisted of teaching, and then counseling, elementary students. Later she realized her dreams of creating a business, her love of making things grow, and her desire to empower employees with developmental disabilities by founding Sunsprouts, an Omaha-based sprout growing business. Jeri retired and moved to Colorado Springs in 2003. Always put together, she dressed with sophisticated style, whether she was meeting friends for a game of bridge, fishing, practicing yoga or volunteering at the Xeriscape Demonstration Garden. She had high financial intelligence and a love of the stock market. Jeri loved fine dining and healthy eating but was known to indulge in a bottle of coke and a frozen snickers bar. She had a fearless zest for life. Adventurous to the core, she traveled the world with friends and family. Her courageous spirit, combined with a strong will, led her to less conventional experiences such as learning to walk on hot coals. An avid reader, Jeri’s life was exemplified by a continuous search for answers. Her conversations were full of interesting questions and she always gave her honest opinion. Jeri died on December 1, 2020. She will be deeply missed by daughter Wendy (Roger) Haywood; son Wade (Amy) Rodrick; sister Deanna (Mike) Hauser; brother Don (Lori) Goering; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and her cherished nieces and nephews.
