In Loving Memory of Gary Ager

Gary Blayne Ager, age 74, passed away on March 23, 2018 in Colorado Springs.

Gary was born in Colorado Springs on October 28, 1943 to Fred Wilson Ager and Ruth Georgia (Wright) Ager. He grew up in what his family calls ‘The Big Red House on McArthur’, which was out in the country back then.

He started working with his father in the family business, Ager Construction, at 14, and over the years he and his family worked on many of the roads in the Springs. He and this city grew up together; there’s a part of him in its very foundation. In 1972 he went out on his own and started Gary B Excavating, which later became Ager Excavating, Inc..

Gary was a man on the go. If it had a motor, he loved it – cars, motorcycles, planes, boats. All of the men in his family raced cars. His roots here were deep, but no matter how much he loved to go, he loved coming back to his home and family more.

In 1964 Gary married Lora Fern Capansky, and together they went on many adventures over the next 55 years. Whenever they got the chance, they would just take off out of the blue: places like Yellowstone, Disneyworld, and the rollercoaster on top of Circus Circus in Las Vegas – a favorite destination for him and his grandkids.

When he wasn’t on the go, Gary was surrounded by family and friends. Everyone loved Gary. He was friendly, fun, generous and open-hearted, never happier than when his loved ones were together, even just for an afternoon playing ball in the park. Gary knew: it’s not where you go, but who you’re with.

Gary is survived by his wife, Lora; his son, Kirk Ager (Linda); his daughter, Lalonna Ager (Eric); his sisters, Phyllis Doty, Bessie Hicks and Janet Johnson; his brother, Billy Ager (Sue); his grandchildren, Michael Ager; Christopher Ager; Britney Bunker (Xavier); Tye Bunker (Morgan); Christopher Crist; and Kyle Ager; his great-grandchild, Phoenix Mohn; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred; his mother, Ruth; his brothers, Loren and Vaughn; and his son, Gary R. Ager.

Services to Celebrate the Life of Gary will be at 2:00pm Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the Rocky Mountain Calvary Church, 4285 Academy Blvd, Colorado Springs, 80918.
