In Loving Memory of Estel “Ray” Littig
Estel “Ray” Littig, age 78, had an eternal change of address on July 9th, 2019 while at his home in Cañon City, Colorado, after a long battle with Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease. Ray was born August 18, 1940 to Ralph and Ruth (Jones) Littig in Pueblo, Colorado. He happily lived most of his life in Ohio and retired in Colorado.
He met the future love of his life, Dorothy (Largent), at a young age. After graduating Florence High School in 1959, they began dating in 1960 and wed on November 22, 1962 in Florence, Colorado. They moved to Ohio in 1963 for Ray to attend Mount Vernon Bible College where he received his Theology Bachelor’s of Science Degree in 1967. With his education and heart to serve others, he began a 25 year long career as a Minister of Christian Education with his wife. He was ordained as a Minister in 1993, by the International Church of the Four Square Gospel. Aside from his work with the church, Ray was also a butcher for 35 years. Fulfilling a desire to own his own business, he and family opened a custom butchering shop and grocery store in Florence, in 1988. Come the last week of November yearly, hunting with his buddies was foremost on his mind, and they always came home with a trophy. He enjoyed sharing his yearly expedition with family, or anyone who would listen. No one was ever quite sure if the story was as big in real life. They were known to stay out come rain or shine. Ray’s compassion for people, his willingness to give and serve others, his extraordinary sense of humor and unique talent for playing pranks made him a cherished member of the community and dear friend to those that had the pleasure of knowing him. He served his family as a loving, devoted husband and father, and man of God.
Ray is survived by his wife, Dorothy Littig; son, Michael Littig (Cindy); and daughter, Cynthia Berger (Rodney). He is also survived by 5 of his 14 siblings: Loy Smith, Nancy Heiliger, Debbie Breece (Frank), Sharon Harper (Bruce), and Randy Littig (Maxine) as well as his grandchildren: Sean Mason, Erika Berger, Victoria Berger, April Isaacs, Casey Fowler, Dustin Miller, Crystal Glover, Desiree Riser, Matthew Wachtel, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ruth Littig and multiple siblings; Lila Dangel, Ila Littig, Harold Littig, Barbara Littig, Vivian Littig, Ethel Hancock, Jerry Littig, Bonnie Cool and Ralph “Bo” Littig.
Services will be held at 10:00am Wednesday, July 17th, 2019 at the Bridge To Life Assembly of God Church, 222 North Orchard Ave, Cañon City, Colorado.
