Eleanor (Ellie) Joy Widner, 78, passed away early Thursday morning, May 31, 2018, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
She was born November 28, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, to Louis Birdt and Beatrice (Simon) Birdt. The family briefly lived in Pennsylvania and southern Florida before moving to southern California, where Ellie grew up. Ellie attended Van Nuys High School (California) and graduated in 1957. She soon met and married the love of her life, Gerald (Jerry) Ray Widner, on April 27, 1958. The young couple then moved to Colorado Springs, where they started a family. Ellie and Jerry celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past April.
Although Ellie always missed California, she loved Colorado, especially during the fall with its colors. She was an avid reader and enjoyed computer games and especially loved cheering on her beloved Denver Broncos, even during many losing seasons. Her favorite artist was Andrea Bocelli, and her favorite song of his was “The Prayer.” Most of all, she adored her loving family. She had an unwavering love, support and belief that any of us could do or be anything we wanted. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Ellie is survived by her husband Gerald (Jerry) Widner of Colorado Springs; three daughters, Lisa Herhold of Denver, Kelly Moore of Colorado Springs, and Laura Lear and husband Nathan Lear of Colorado Springs; one grandson, Jarrad Weber of Colorado Springs; three granddaughters, Sarah Medina and husband John Medina of San Antonio, Texas, Julianne Herhold of Brisbane, Australia, and Kristen Herhold of Washington, D.C.; three great-grandchildren, Alexis Dillard, Caiden Egen, and Sydney Rodriguez of San Antonino, Texas; step-grandchildren, Todd Lear and wife Jasmine Lear of Colorado Springs, Courtney Kirts and husband Kenneth Kirts of Champaign, Illinois; step-great-grandchildren, Alaera and Layton Lear of Colorado Springs; nieces and nephews, Cheryl Fitzgerald, Louis Birdt, Carnie Postma and Cathy Widner of California and Doug Widner and Wendy Downie of Colorado Springs; and many other family and friends who loved her very much.
Ellie is preceded in death by her parents, Louis & Beatrice Birdt; brother, Michael Birdt; grandson, Justin Weber, son-in-law, Donald Herhold; and mother- & father in-law, Beryl & Ray Widner.
