In Loving Memory of Edna Pitts

Edna Pitts passed away September 26, 2019 after a long battle with multiple medical maladies.  Edna Earl Duncan Pitts was born June 20, 1932 to parents, Earl and Ora Duncan in the family home in rural Northwest Georgia.  Birth place is listed as Trion, Georgia but her family farm is listed as Lafayette Georgia, the home town where she attended school and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1950. Edna attended Business College and worked in Chattanooga, Tennessee until she met and later married her Husband of 65 years, Lieutenant Russell N. Pitts of the United States Army.   Her first home after marriage was in Augsburg Germany where she began her career as the consummate military wife of a career soldier for 24 years.  She raised three sons and steered a family through many household moves through those years and was the “Head of the House” during Husband’s multiple years of unaccompanied tours of duty overseas. She lived in Colorado Springs three times throughout her many travels and relocations.   In addition to her responsibilities to her family through those years, Edna was highly respected and loved as a warm and gracious Hostess throughout her husband’s many assignments.  She loved and enjoyed life with humor, humility, and Gusto.  Everyone she met, knew, and socialized with, loved her.  Upon Husband’s retirement from the Army, the family lived in Canada for a while and returned to Colorado Springs to live in her favorite place in the world and consume and enjoy the majestic views offered in the shadow of Pikes Peak in her favorite City.  During the following years, Edna worked outside the home in the human resources and construction industry.  Eventually she became the assistant to a Financial Consultant in the Stock Brokerage business and remained with him for 20 years until she retired at the end of 2008.  Subsequently, Edna enjoyed her retirement traveling, entertaining friends, (She was a wonderful cook as every one that dined with her will attest) socializing and playing bridge with a group of good friends.  Edna is survived by her Husband of 65 years, Russell N Pitts; Sons, Russell and Dale of Colorado Springs and Gary of Phoenix AZ; Granddaughter, Jenae Pitts of Buffalo NY; Grandsons, Russell Pitts of Yorktown VA, and Matthew Pitts of Colorado Springs.  She has many friends that are truly saddened by Edna’s Passing.  The family thanks all of her friends that have expressed their condolences.  We will all Miss her tremendously but will remember her gracious personality, Charm, and Loving attitude!

A “Celebration of Her Life Service” will be held 10:30 AM, October 24, 2019 in the Cowboys for Jesus Church 11 N 22nd St., in Colorado Springs, CO, for those that desire and in lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to the National Kidney Foundation or the Stroke Recovery Center of the University of South Carolina.
