Ann Amelia Stuhr
February 12, 1946 – October 30, 2022
Ann Amelia Stuhr passed away on October 30, 2022 in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the age of 76. She was born on February 12, 1946 in Gastonia, North Carolina to Austin Summey and Bryte Brewer. After graduating from Ashley High School, Ann went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina. She worked for many years in hospitals across Colorado.
Ann met the love of her life, David Stuhr, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and the two were married on October 24, 1971. She was a boon companion for me for over 50 years. Having never ridden a horse, she gamely went on a 7-day horse packing trip in the Canadian Rockies in 1973. She enjoyed traveling to many places in North America and finally went to Europe in 2001. A few years later, in spite of having some disabilities, she went on a trip to New Zealand and Australia, even taking a four-wheel drive tour on the South Island of New Zealand to view a Penguin colony. Ann was always up for an adventure, but still remained the rock that helped our older daughter, Gretchen, survive law school. She was a wonderful mother to both of our daughters.
Even between her career and our adventures, she always remained active in our church in Alamosa until her health began to deteriorate. One of the things that I will miss the most are the interesting conversations we used to have at the breakfast table on a wide range of topics from my fascination with gardening to discussions about her family and mine. She will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.
Ann is preceded in death by her father, Austin R. Summey; her mother Bryte Summey; and stepfather, Oscar Hurst. She is survived by her husband, David C. Stuhr; her two daughters, Gretchen M Stuhr and Liesl K Stuhr; and three grandchildren, Jacob, Bella and Ava.
