In Loving Memory Allen Lavern Roberts
Allen Lavern Roberts, age 85, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family and friends on Friday, August 23, 2019 in Cotopaxi, Colorado. He was born November 14, 1933 in Holly, Colorado to Floyd Lavern Roberts and Calista May Orton-Roberts. Al grew up in Karval, graduating from Karval High School and joining the United States Army. After his service Al worked a few jobs including working on the farm, Dupont and Electrons Corporation. After meeting Virginia through her siblings, they soon married in 1953 and remained so until her passing in 1990. Years later he met Becky at the Englewood Bowling Alley. They married in 2011 in Canon City, Colorado.
Al will be remembered as a warm, open and big-hearted man. He made it a point to serve and help others. There has been an outpouring of love from the Cotopaxi community.
From the moment his cancer was diagnosed, he knew his time was valuable. Every time he would see his family, he would get the biggest grin and clap his hands and cry happy tears in excitement to see everyone. Family and friends were everything to Al and he welcomed everyone into his life and home, treating all as if they were the most important people in his life. He loved to camp and his “the more the merrier” attitude saw the camping group grow every year.
Al lived his life to the fullest with a passion for nearly every outdoor activity, including hunting, fishing, camping and building just about anything one could imagine. Al truly was a talented man. If it was late October, Al was prepping for his annual hunting trip, something he cherished and did for over 50 years. An avid fisherman, grandpa got just as excited when someone else caught a fish as he did when he landed one. He was there to help the grandkids by baiting the hook with the worm or taking a fish off the hook.
Al’s white shirts, Dickies and flannels will remain his signature attire. And, when the family wanders by the “nasty” Black Walnut Ice Cream in the grocery store, or when they eat a Pecan Turtle or Chocolate Covered Cherry, it will mean a little bit more because part of Al will be with them. The family is thankful for the memories and experiences that Al gave them and he will always be their hearts. His memory will remain with all forever.
He is preceded by his parents Floyd and Calista Roberts; his first wife Virginia Small-Roberts; and by one sister Wanda Roberts.
Allen is survived by his wife Becky Roberts of Cotopaxi; Children Patti and Bob Skinner, Jim and Betty Roberts, Don and Debbie Roberts, Richard and Sue Roberts, Dave and Rose Roberts, Mike and Nicola Abromowich and Colleen Abromowich; Al had 20 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grand Kids.
