In Loving Memory of Alexandra “Allie” Gilstrap
Alexandra Danielle Gilstrap passed away January 31, 2020 surrounded by her loving family at home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Alexandra “Allie” was born February 17, 1993 in Tyler, TX to William Ralph Gilstrap and Stephanie (McCarley) Gilstrap. They were a military family and lived in Mannhein, Germany; Ft.Hood/Killeen, TX; Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD; National Training Center, CA; Tyler, TX, Fountain,CO; and Colorado Springs, CO.
Alexandra attended Silver Valley High, and then went on to college at University Texas at Tyler and then continued her education at Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs. She worked at Target and most recently at Microchip. Alexandra loved traveling, reading, hiking, movies, music, childcare and volunteering. She was a faithful Protestant. Her favorite music was Christian Rock, Pop, and Country.
During Allie’s life she loved to serve and care for others, especially children. She traveled to Colombia to help educate indigenous children with English. Caring for children brought her much joy and would often be found volunteering in the church’s childcare area and her friend Jamie’s school classroom. She loved being able to help out and spend time with Kaitlyn’s son Kian, and one of her greatest joys was being with her niece Rosa.
Alexandra is survived by her parents, William “Bill” and Stephanie Gilstrap; her brother, Joshua and sister, Ashley (Diego) and her beautiful niece, Rosa. She is preceeded in death by her Maternal grandparents, Steven and Paula McCarley and Paternal grandmother, Elsbeth Gilstrap.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Allie Gilstrap on Monday February 17, 2020 at 1pm at The Cowboy Church located at 11 North 22nd Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The services will be informal so please come comfortably dressed as this is a celebration to remember Allie on her birthday. We will have a memory board where we hope you will leave a memory of Allie (pictures or notes). We will also have a small reception following the service with snacks and drinks.
The family wishes to thank the many people that blessed and supported Allie including: Dr.Steese, Dr. Pomeranke, Dr.Chang, Dr.Nova, the infusion teams at UCHealth, Dr.Ridder, Jordan, MA, Nick, NP and the wonderful Palliative and Hospice care from Pikes Peak Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Judes, American Cancer Society, Dream Foundation, Pikes Peak Hospice, or do something kind for a child or stranger in Allie’s memory.
